A Pocketful of Pride is a series within the Pigeonhole Books collection that features stories about children from families with same sex parents.

Legalised same-sex marriage, adoption, surrogacy, egg and sperm donation and a myriad of other related issues, all differ from country to country. These issues remain prevalent and are at the forefront of our changing world.

In April 2001, the Netherlands was the first country to end the exclusion of same-sex couple from marriage. What a feat this must have been and I can only imagine the journey they took to get to that point. It is now 2015. 14 years on and only 22 other countries have followed suit. Seeing that we have approximately 196 countries in the world today, it only translates to 11% of global progress. However more and more children continue to be part of same-sex families. How do we educate children from 91% of the rest of the world to understand and accept the different family units that exists today?

My intention is to provide a different medium of understanding. Through beautiful graphics and loving words, I hope this will make a small dent, just enough to make a worthwhile contribution.

Wishful Wedding – OUT NOW!
Papa’s sister is getting married today! Daddy and I get ready, a flower girl I am. We witness in delight and giggle with glee but deep down in our hearts, we’re sad you see? When will my fathers be able to wed? I can only hope for change, in the future ahead.

  2. For the youngest children, in my Bentley The Bunny series, I have published a book called ‘Bentley The Bunny – LOVE IS LOVE’, that teaches young children that it is not wrong to have two fathers or two mothers as long as they have love. Families are families and love is love! Best, Jamie Bachelis
